You may be wondering why we are talking about Disney Movies and their characters. You also may be thinking, this has nothing to do with being a single parent! On the contrary! They definitely relate to single parents, especially their children. Most people have different opinions about Disney movies. Whether to allow their children to watch them. Some parents say it’s too much fantasy for them, they will think life works that easy. Especially for the girls, that they will find a rich handsome man, sweep them away from the situation they are from.
Now to the part you have been wondering about how they relate to single parents.
Most of these characters, start out with being with one parent, adoptive parents or no parents at all. These stories help children understand and have something to relate to what is going on in their lives. For example the movie -- Cinderella
Cinderella loses her father, and is stuck with a person she hardly knows, her stepmother. Cinderella wants a mother figure in her life, and just wants to please her new mom to accept her as her own. She cleans the whole house for her and her sisters, she cooks for them and does every command they say. SHE JUST WANTS TO BE PART OF A FAMILY!
To keep it short, she ends up going to ball she is not allowed to go to… how many kids sneak out or do the opposite of what their parents say?! Lol. She ends up falling in love with the prince and the prince ends up falling in love with her as well, and live happily ever after.
The point we are trying to get across is, this movie is good to watch with children, if you’re a stepmother for some laughs, or just a single parent, and for the ones who have lost a parent.
It shows even if you have struggles to go through, whether you are being treated bad or lost a loved one, YOU CAN GET THROUGH IT. Cinderella was able to cope with the loss of her father, for she knew how much he loved her. Even when surrounded with bad people and bumps in the road. To know someone loved or loves you, and supports you to achieve your goals, you will be happy and you might not find that rich prince charming to get away from the struggles but you, yourself, will find a way out and there is HOPE, there is always hope.
The point of these movies is to give hope to children, and showing single parents that children grow up the same and become as successful as children with two parents, or none at all. Children just need the love of a parent.
So we say YES to Disney movies, they are educational, they bring hope and understanding in a fun, adorable, funny way. So grab that blanket, some popcorn and start that extra bonding time!
Here is a small list of some movies of what situation they relate to.
- Single Parents: Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, Nemo, The Little Mermaid, Mulan, Pocahontas, Toy Story, Aristocats, and many more.
- Adoptive/Stepparents: Pinocchio, Cinderella, Snow White, and many more.

Sarah is a single mom working as a waitress at Ruby Tuesday. Two customers came into her work during her lunch shift, in their national guard uniforms. She overheard them talking about how they wanted to order something small, since they were low on cash. They also mentioned that this was due to the government shutdown, which was messing heavily with their income. Being a single mom, Sarah also knew what it was like to go through financial hardship. So out of the kindness of her heart, she covered the lunch for both of the customers. She also left a note, which was posted to facebook by the customers. This small act of kindness got so much attention, and it even received the attention from Ellen Degeneres.
Even as a single parent going home with $8 dollars in tips in her pocket, Sarah went out of her way to show kindness to others who were also suffering through hardship. She is a wonderful example to do well unto others. No matter what situation you are in, never forget to be kind to one another, and to reach out to others in need. You never know how the universe will reward you.
God Bless you single parents, and remember to "Be kind to one another".
Many people find themselves in a financial bind during the holiday season. This bind seems to come earlier and earlier each year. With the current economic crisis in full swing, many will find themselves struggling just to pay their bills let alone be able to purchase presents.
Charity doesn’t have to be one sided and if you are in a bind this holiday season, you can get help paying your bills, getting food in your home, and even getting presents for your children.
If you think you will need help, contact the organization as soon as possible to make sure there is plenty of help available. The sooner you contact them, the more chance you will have to get help. Remember that families who need the help the most will take priority. Some places, such as food pantries, soup kitchens, and other charity meal providers need only proof of your financial need and they will distribute food to you.
How do you contact some of these organizations? The first place to start is your local Department of Health and Human Services which is run by the state that you live in. They will help you determine if you are eligible for temporary state aide such as food stamps and other monetary assistance. They will be able to point you in the right direction for assistance and aide if they cannot help you.
Local utility company
Your local utility companies may have assistance programs as well which may help you reduce your monthly bills on a temporary basis so that you pay them and keep your lights and heat on. If you are a member of a church or religious organization, speak to your pastor or rabbi about your problems. Many times they will offer you money that is not expected to be paid back in order to get you through difficult times.
Organizations like Toys For Tots will help you get toys and gifts for your children, and the Salvation Army can assist with clothing and toys as well. All you have to do is ask, and there is nothing wrong with asking for help when you need it.
Realize that no matter what you do, you can't force your child's father to be involved.
Although having a father figure is important, it's not everything. As a good mother, you don't need a father to rai...se your child in a quality fashion.
Forcing a reluctant father to talk on the phone will only confuse your child.
If you try to force a relationship with a father who doesn't want one, your child is bound to feel disappointed and rejected.
Don't talk negatively about your child's father, but don't glorify him, either.
Leave the door open for responsible contact between the father and your child.

Single Mother Grants - Choosing What Type of Education you Want
Single mother grants are available in a number of different ways, you can get grants at a state, federal or private level and the grants can range from small amounts of money to help with tuition to larger amounts that will pay all of your tuition and some of your day to day costs. The biggest problem comes in when you try to decide what you want to do, it is important to first keep in mind that many single mother grants have a limitation on them for what type of schooling you can use them for, so you must first check on this before you start making decisions.
Once you know what type of schooling you can choose, (usually trade schools or no more than 2 year programs) you should look for something that will interest you, but do not fool yourself about money either. It is important that the trade you choose can comfortably support you and your children, hopefully you will be able to find both in an area near you, if not you will need to carefully balance both needs, keeping in mind that you may be able to build on your schooling later.
